up on my taskbar. I didn't install SQL Server. The icon
starting showing up after I ran Windows Update. SQL Server is not
listed in my Add/Remove programs, and I can't seem to find the
application anywhere on my laptop. I have a new (less than 6
months old) Dell laptop running WinXP Professional. I seem to
have lost my Internet connectivity at about the same time this icon
showed up. I did a system restore back to before I installed the
Windows Update, and the icon disappeared. However, it has now
shown up again. Anybody know what's going on with this?
Does some other app use SQL server? I really need to fix this
problem.
Thx,

Hi
By reading at your description, I can't really tell what has happen to your machine.
But please try the following:
1. From your desktop, right click on "my computer" icon.
2. Select "manage" from the pop-up menu.
3. When "Computer Managment" console pop up, expand "Services and Applications" node on left pane.
4. select "Services" node
5. Now look at the right pane on Computer Management console. It lists all the window services that are available on your machine. Please scrow down the list and see if you can find any service name that starts with "SQL Server"
If there are any listed, could you please post the list for furthur analysis?
Thank you. :-)
|||I'm getting the same message. So I inadvertently (in my jet lag state) removed sqlmanagr.exe from my Add/Remove location. Now my computer is running slowly, does not access the Internet, and my family is ready to disown me.
Pls help - 1) what fixed your problem, and 2) how do I get the service manager back?
Thx,
|||Hi,
Have you installed Visual Studio on your laptop !!? If yes; SQL Server Express is a part of it. Refer earlier given link for manual un-installation.
