How do I know if a column is updated?

Hi,
In SQL Server 2000, how do I know that a paricular column in a Table row is
updated?
e.g., in Customer(ID, Name, SSN, DoB, Address),
the (0001, John, 123456789,1980/01/02,'1234 Main Street'),
where the '1234 Main Street' is updated.
Thanks for help.
Jason
You could respond to the change in an UPDATE trigger. In the trigger
you can use the IF UPDATE()
<http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/de...es_08_7377.asp>
clause to determine if any particular column has been changed. For example,
CREATE TRIGGER MyUpdateTrigger ON dbo.MyTable
FOR UPDATE AS
IF UPDATE(MyCol)
BEGIN
...
END
GO
where MyCol is a column in dbo.MyTable that you want to respond to
changes on.

How do I find someone to help with Sql Server 2005 BI Project?

I've been building out a data warehouse of my product's usage with some
segmentation of our customer base. I am doing this using SQL Server 2005
Integration Services, Analysis Services and Reporting Services. My problem
is, I am doing this as a "side project" and I am not making enough progress
.
That brings me to my question...how can I find a SQL Server 2005 consultant
who knows the new BI services that have been released with SQL Server 2005.
I've been looking all over the net to find someone, and I am at a loss. My
office is in Boston and I'd ideally like to get a consultant who can come
work out of our offices for some period of time, but I am can't find anyone.
Anyone have any advice on where to go to find these folks?Hi Peter,
I'm in Boston, and can connect you with someone in my network who can help.
Send me a private e-mail with more about your project requirements, etc.

How do I find out what caused a deadlock?

I got an error message from my customer saying that once, during the night,
when executing a report it got an error message that stopped the application
the extended error was
Transaction (Process ID 57) was deadlocked on lock resources with another
process and has been chosen as the deadlock victim. Rerun the transaction.
Thats fine but It was an untrapped error that required a stop and start of
the application and its the first time it occured in seven years of running
this app. The app is a report, so everyting is read-only, there are no
record editing or creations involved, so how can it create a deadlock?
To answer these questions I think I need to know what the conditions were
that created the deadlock, I think that may be possible looking through the
transaction log of sql server, but how do I do that? When I looked under
administration logs in the sql server explorer all I saw was basically the
logs of the backups , but no place where I could find what transact sql
statement executed at what time with what results. Is there a way to find
this out or is that info lost after commandes execute?
Thanks for your help,
Bob
